Partial and Full Dentures
A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. Dentures are helpful smile enhancers as they closely resemble your natural teeth.
Two types of dentures are available - complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. A Partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, but it provides the additional benefit of preventing other teeth from shifting.
If you are in need of a complete denture, you have the option of either “conventional” or “immediate". A conventional denture is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, a process that usually takes between 4 and 6 weeks. During this time period, you would go without teeth. The second option, immediate dentures, are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed. This allows you to have teeth immediately without waiting several weeks. Adjustments do have to be made once the tissues shrink and heal.
Reasons for dentures:
Complete Denture - Loss of all teeth in an arch.
Partial Denture - Loss of several teeth in an arch.
Enhancing smile and facial tissues.
Improving chewing, speech, and digestion.
What is involved in getting dentures?
The process of getting dentures requires several visits, usually over a period of weeks. We will make highly accurate impressions and take measurements to create your custom denture. Several visits to our office may be necessary to try on the dentures to ensure proper shape, color, and fit. At your final appointment, we will precisely adjust and place the completed denture, ensuring a natural and comfortable fit.
